Fort Bend Herald, October 14, 2018: Leola Schwettman Schmidt, age 103, of Needville, TX was born June 26, 1915 and went home to her Lord Thursday, October 11, 2018. Funeral services are set for 10 AM Tuesday, October 16, 2018, at Immanuel Evangelical Church, 9018 Church Street, Needville, TX 77461, with Pastor Joe Kost officiating. Burial will follow in Immanuel Evangelical Church Cemetery, Needville, TX. A time of visitation will be from 5-8 PM Monday, October 15, 2018 at the church. Welcoming Leola into Heaven were her parents, Henry and Minnie Schwettman; her husband, William "Bill" Schmidt; 3 sons, Allen Ray Schmidt, Arthur Lee Schmidt, Roger Schmidt and daughter-in-law, Annette Hartfiel Schmidt. Also greeting her with loving arms were her 12 sisters and brothers of the Schwettman family. Leola is survived by her son, Wayne Schmidt, and her daughters-in-law, Janice Miller Schmidt Nowak and Shirley Hamby Schmidt, as well as her beloved grandchildren, Greg and wife, Sherrie Schmidt, Gayla Schmidt Love, Garren "Puggs" and wife, Shelly Schmidt, Connie and husband, Mike Bergen, Carl and wife, Kelly Schmidt, Denise and husband, Michael Ramey, Steven "Andy" and wife, Michelle Schmidt, Roger "Scotty" and wife, Sandy Schmidt, and Lance Schmidt. She also leaves behind 16 great-grandchildren, Aaron Schmidt, Taylor Schmidt, Colton Schmidt, Natalie Miller Weathers, Brandon Miller, Parker Schmidt, Kristyn Bergen, Caden Schmidt, Coy Kern, Conner Kern, Chase Ramey, Casey Ramey, Jonathon Schmidt, Austin Schmidt, Matthew Schmidt, and Samantha Schmidt; 4 great-great-grandchildren, Stormi Schmidt, Drew Weathers, Rylie Schmidt, and Kaitlyn Laurensten; along with many relatives and lifelong friends that she cherished dearly. Leola was a loving angel with a giving heart. She was always there for her family. She rocked, cared for, and advised all her grand and great-gGrandchildren over the years. She loved playing dominos, cooking, backing coffee cake and cookies for everyone. Leola raised her boys and worked on the family farm until 1962. After that, she worked over 20 years as a school cook for Needville ISD. She belonged to Immanuel Evangelical Church where she helped work with the Senior Citizens, Women's Guild, and Ladies Aid. The pallbearers carrying Leola to her final resting place will be her grandsons, Greg, Puggs, Carl, Andy, Scotty, and Lance Schmidt. Honorary pallbearers are Michael Ramey and Mike Bergen. The family wishes to thank the SPJST Rest Home and their staff for providing love and care over the last 6 years.
