Army WWII - Buried at St. Rose Cemetery, Crofton, NE. Herm was born in Aloys, NE. He lived in Crofton, NE from 1911 to 1932, and then moved to Columbus, Wisconsin. He was a WWII Veteran, serving in the Army from 1942 to 1945. Herm moved back to Crofton in 1945 and farmed until 1978. Herm moved to a Nebraska Vet Home in February 1984. He passed away July 10, 1985 at a Norfolk Nursing Home. Herm was known for always having a bottle of 7UP for you to have when you stopped over. He could always be counted on to deal him in for a game of cards Plantenberg History – Mary Ann Wendell Emanuel Herman Plantenberg, 79, Crofton, Neb, died Wednesday (Jul 10, 1985) at Norfolk, Neb, nursing home. The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday in St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Crofton, with the Rev. Timothy Lange officiating. Burial will be in St. Rose Cemetery with military honors by Crofton American Legion Post 128. Pallbearers will be nephews. Visitations will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday at Wintz Funeral Home in Crofton. Mr. Plantenberg was born Dec. 9, 1905, at Aloys, Neb. to Fred J. and Mary (Ortmeier) Plantenberg. He lived from 1911 to 1932 in Crofton before moving to Columbus WI. He was a WWII veteran, serving in the Army from 1942 to 1945. He moved to Crofton in 1945 where he farmed until his retirement in 1978. He had been a resident of the Nebraska Veterans Home in Norfolk since February 1984. He was a member of the Crofton American Legion Post 128 and the Knight of Columbus. Survivors are two sisters, Mrs. Joseph (Martha) Emanuel, North Bend, Neb and Mrs. Bernadine Alemeda, Crofton, and two brothers, Arthur, Miami, FL, and Emil, Crofton. – Crofton newspaper- 1985
