Mary Ortmeier Plantenberg, 82, died 20 Dec 1956 at Crofton, NE. She was born to Ferdinand John and Maria Anna Luening Ortmeier 12 Oct 1874 in Aloys, NE. She married Fred Plantenberg 04 Jun 1895 at St. Charles, NE. They ran a store and implement business in Aloys until they moved to Crofton, Knox County where they purchased land in 1912. To this union the following children were born, Mayme, 1896, Ann, 1897, Ferdinand, 1899, John 1902, Casper, 1903, Herman, 1905, Martha, 1907, Bernadine, 1909, Fred A., 1913, Arthur, 1915, Emil, 1920. Interment is St. Rose Cemetery, Crofton, NE. Mary Ortmeier Plantenberg Crofton-Mrs. Mary Plantenberg, 82, died last Thursday afternoon at her farm home a mile and a half southeast of Crofton. She had been ill three days. Funeral services were Monday morning at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Crofton. Rev. Bernard Westermann officiated. Mrs. Plantenberg is survived by five sons, Jack of Fall River, Wis.; Casper and Herman of Crofton; Emil of Pierre, S.D.; Arthur of Denver; two daughters, Mrs; Joe Emamuel of North Bend, and Mrs. Fred Alameda of SanJose Cal., Also surviving are 22 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren. Two brothers and two sisters preceded her in death. Mary Ortmeier was born October 12, 1874, at Westfalen, Germany, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Ortmeier. She came to the United States with her parents when she was ten years old and they settled near West Point. She was married to Fred Plantenberg in June 1894. Then lived at Aloys several years then moved to Crofton in 1911. She has lived on the same farm since 1911. Mr. Plantenberg died July 7, 1925 at Norfolk. Mrs, Plantenberg was a member of the Christian Mothers Society, America Legion Auxiliary and Gold Star Mothers. Burial was in the parish cemetery. Pallbearers were six grandsons, Kenny Emanuel, Jerome Emanuel, Wendell Emanuel, Ralph and Cletus Plantenberg and William Kremer. Wintz Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
