Bio

Fort Bend Herald, May 27, 2008: Joe Edward Hajdik, 86, a lifetime resident of Rosenberg, Texas, passed away Sunday, May 25, 2008. He was born Jan. 3, 1922 in Fairchilds, Texas to George and Anna Sevcik Hajdik. The family moved to Rosenberg where he was reared and attended school. In 1942, Joe joined the U.S. Army and served as a sergeant in the military police during World War II. Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 29, 2008, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 1416 George St. in Rosenberg. Visitation is 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 28, at Garmany and Carden Funeral Directors Chapel, 1201 Fourth Street in Rosenberg, with a 7 p.m. rosary recitation. Joe and Sophie Dusak married Nov. 8, 1943 in Wallis, Texas, and to that union six children were born, five sons and one daughter. He was a lifetime member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church where he served as an altar boy in his younger years. Joe was also a member of the American Legion, Knights of Columbus, and K.J.Z.T. Joe was a builder, farmer, and rancher. He owned and operated Joe E. Hajdik Construction Company for many years, building apartments and homes. After retiring, he owned and operated Fairchilds Feed and Farm in Fairchilds and Sun Spirits in Rosenberg. He was owner of the Diamond H Hereford Cattle Ranch, where all six children were taught the cattle business. Joe was very active in the Fort Bend County Fair for many years. He was former Chairman of the Junior Fair Board Beef Committee and Lifetime Member of the Fort Bend County Fair Association. He loved his wife and family, and enjoyed having them around him. He also enjoyed raising cattle, and spoiling every one of them, being on his tractor, tinkering in his work shop, gardening, hunting, and the Houston Astros baseball team. Joe is preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Sophie; his parents; and eight siblings. He is survived by his children, Jody Hajdik and wife, Julie, Dennis Hajdik, Patricia Euwer and husband, Mark, Tim Hajdik and wife, Vicki, Nick Hajdik and wife, Judy, and Gary Hajdik and wife, Karen; ten grandchildren, Teresa Werner, Melissa Crawford, Jennifer Goodrum, Dennis Joe Hajdik, Cullen Verbarg, Angie Ohl, Mark Hajdik, Michelle Hajdik, Josh Hajdik, and Kobie Hajdik; nine great-grandchildren; three sisters; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members. And to Pedy, Mary, Tricia, Beverly, and Charlotte, they lifted Dad's spirit up and kept him going; they cared for him with the sweetest kindness, love, and devotion; and to Janice Hoffman with Odyssey Hospice, who treated him with the most gentlest care and love, being there at times on her own time and away from her family, we thank them so much. Words cannot express how much these six ladies have meant to the family. Serving as pallbearers are Joe's sons and son-in-law. The family requests that memorials be made to “Keep the Vision Alive,” 1416 George Street, Rosenberg, TX 77471, in Joe's name.
