The Republican, Aitkin, MN; June 13, 1925 FRANK BUCHANAN IS KILLED AT WHEEL Frank Buchanan, age 51, of Cuyuna was killed in an automobile accident at Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, Monday afternoon while on his way home from Burnstad, ND, where he had been for six weeks looking after business interests and visiting a former business associate, John Smith, a one-time resident of Aitkin. The car plunged into a ditch while making a sharp turn at the foot of a long steep hill on which it is thought the brakes failed to work. Mr Buchanan, was one of the leading business men of Cuyuna and well known in Aitkin. His mother, Mrs M.J. Buchanan of Cuyuna and his brothers and sister, William, Leo, Mark, Harry, Paul and Miss May Buchanan of Cuyuna are also known to many Aitkin residents. Two other brothers survive, Fred Buchanan of Chatfield and Robert of Virginia, Minn. Funeral services were conducted by the Rev Philip H. Kiley of Aitkin at St Joseph's Catholic Church in Crosby Friday morning at 9 o'clock and burial made in the Catholic Cemetery (St Thomas) at Aitkin. Frank Buchanan was the son of William H and Margaret Jane (Horan) Buchanan. In 1903 he was married to Wilhelmina Pauline "Minnie" Lempke, daughter of Julius John and Pauline (Neske) Lemke. They had one child that died. In 1920 she was a resident of Fergus Falls Asylum for the insane, Otter Tail County, MN, then in 1930 she was at the Anoka State Asylum. She died in 1969.
