Fred Buchanan, 86, died Friday at 10 a.m. at a Rochester hospital where he had been a patient since Wednesday when he had fallen and broken a hip. He was born July 7, 1876 in Missouri to William and Margaret Horan Buchanan. He married the former Fanny McGhie March 6, 1915 in Spring Valley. Following their marriage the couple farmed for many years in this area. Survivors are: one son, Harold Buchanan, Chatfield; one daughter, Miss Irene Buchanan, Chatfield; three grandchildren; two brothers, Leo, Minneapolis; and Mark, Jamestown, N.D.; one sister, Miss Mary Buchanan, Minneapolis. His wife died in August, 1962. Five brothers also are dead. Funeral services will be today at 2:30 pm at the Boetzer-Akeson Funeral Home, the Rev. Robert Villwock, Pioneer Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Chatfield cemetery. Friends may call from 2 p.m. until time of services. Pallbearers will be: Lee Littlefield, Jean Olson, Fred Groby, Albert Niemeyer, A. G. Groen and Lyle Meeker.
