Mrs Buchanan, Cuyana Pioneer, Buried Saturday Mrs M.J. Buchanon passed away at her home in Cuyuna on Thursday, November 16, 1933, cause of death being old age. On Septermber 12 while at the home of her son Robert Buchanan, at Virginia, Minn, she had a stroke which time she has been failing in health. Mrs Buchanon was born in DeWitt, Iowa and was 85 years old September 26, 1933. She came to Minnesota 39 years ago and settled in Deerwood township, at Cedar Lake, with her husband, later settling in Cuyuna in 1911. Mr Buchanon passed away in 1907 in Cedar Lake. The last rites were held in Crosby at 9:00am on Saturday, November 18, from St. Joseph's Catholic Church, by the Rev. Fr. Fredrick, officiating. Interment was made in the Aitken Cemetery. The following children survive, who are: William, Henry, Paul and Leo, who live at Cedar Brook; Fred at Chatfield, Minn., Robert at Virginia, Minn., Mark at Jamestown, ND, and Miss May Buchanon in Minneapolis. Frank Buchanan passed away 8 years ago at Detroit Lakes, Minn., where he was killed in an automobile wreck while returning home to Cuyuna from North Dakota, to attend the State Fireman's association meeting which was held here. The following served as pall bearers: August Luek, James Cummings, Henry Handorf, Herman Bengsen, Oscar Johnson and Pat Keeley. The many friends of the deceased join in extending condolences. Margaret was born September 26, 1848 in DeWitt, Clinton Co., IA the youngest daughter of William and Margaret (Byrne) Horan. She married William Henry Buchanan, son of Elijah W and Elizabeth (Stone) Buchanan in April 1869. He was a nephew of her sister Mary's husband, also named William Henry Buchanan. She is survived by children - William, Fred (Fannie), Henry, Robert (Myrtle), Paul, Leo and Mark (Esther); one daughter Mary "May" Buchanan and a daughter-in-law Minnie Buchanan. She was preceded in death by her husband William; her parents; three infant sons and her son Frank in 1925; and her siblings, Mary E (William) Buchanan, John Pierce (Sarah) Horan, Sarah Horan, Matthew Horan and William Thomas Horan.
