Ben Uptmore Of West Dies Ben A. Uptmore, 80, of West died Friday in the West Community Hospital. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 3 p.m. Sunday at St. Martin’s Catholic Church in Tours, the Rev. Frank Miller as celebrant. Burial followed in St. Martin’s Cemetery. Rosary was recited at Kotch Funeral Chapel in West. Mr. Uptmore was born in Tours and lived in the Tours-Hoen area all his life. He was a retired farmer and rancher. Mr. Uptmore also was a semi-professional baseball pitcher with the West Sluggers and played in the Texas League. He was a member of St. Martin’s Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Benjamin F. Uptmore and Kenneth M. Uptmore, both of West, and Gregory Uptmore of 2212 North Faye in Northcrest; three daughters, Mrs. Angeline Land of Dallas, Mrs. Mary Ann Glass of Austin, and Mrs. Alma Enlow of Garland; two brothers, Frank Uptmore of West and Jim Uptmore of Waco; two sisters, Mrs. Joe (Maggie) Schroeder and Mrs. Joe (Lizzie) Grellhesl, both of West; 14 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
