He had been with Earnest Heine and Joe Snyder at Tours the night before and they had ridden in the car with him, leaving him about 9 oclock Wednesday night only a few yards from where he was found the next morning. The road was slick which caused the car to run in the ditch. It was a Ford touring car and the top was down. Brandon Alexander, who is mail carrier on Route 4, was making his route and saw two little girls some distance ahead of him. One of them was Irene, the little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Uptmore who had been away to spend the night and was returning to her home. Irene found her father pinned under the car by the side of the road and came running back to get Mr. Alexander to help them get him out. He was rescued, but never regained consciousness. He died about 3 p.m. Mr. Uptmore was about 30 years old and leaves a wife and several children who have the sympathy of all.
