He was born January 27, 1826, in Haldem, Westphalia, Germany, and he died July 29, 1872, in Haldem, Westphalia. Sophia came to Texas with her mother and sister Louise in 1884. Sophia had one brother who had left Germany for Texas in 1880, but he died on the voyage over and was buried at sea. Sophie was baptized October 7, 1866, and she was confirmed April 3, 1881, in the Evangelical Lutheran Church Parish in Dielingen, Westphalia, Germany. ~ Mrs. Schwarz Dies In Thorndale Today Mrs. Sophie H. Schwarz, 88, passed away Wednesday at 3 a.m. at her home in Thorndale following an extended illness. Mrs. Schwarz was born in Westphalen, Germany, September 22, 1866. She was married to F. W. Schwarz, who preceded her in death July 15, 1949, on November 5, 1885. Mrs. Schwarz had been a resident of Thorndale for 31 years and was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church of Detmold. Survivors include seven daughters, Mrs. Louise Lange of Thrall, Mrs. Anna Zieschang, Mrs. Mary Pasemann, Mrs. Beatrice Kerlin, Mrs. Clara Kerlin, all of Taylor, Mrs. Frieda Becker and Mrs. Sophie Richter of Thorndale; five sons, Friedrich Schwarz and Wilhelm Schwarz of Thorndale, C. C. Schwarz and Ludwig Schwarz of Taylor and Henry C. Schwarz of Fabens. Also surviving are 38 grandchildren and 45 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Friday from St. John's Lutheran Church at Detmold with the pastor, the Rev. Leo Simon, officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Norris Schwarz, Roy Becker, Reinhold Zieschang, Milton Kerlin, Clarence Schwarz and Marvin Pasemann.
