Herald Coaster, April 26, 1983: Funeral services for longtime Rosenberg merchant, John Mensik, 83, will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. A rosary is scheduled for Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at Garmany & Carden Funeral Chapel in Richmond. Mensik, who owned and operated grocery stores in the Rosenberg-Needville area for a half-century, died Monday at Polly Ryon Hospital. He was a Rosenberg resident for 39 years. A native of Ammannsville, Fayette County, Mensik was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, and of Slavonic Mutual Fire Association Chapter 4 of Rosenberg. Survivors include his wife, Edna, of Rosenberg; sons, Daniel, John, and Marvin of Rosenberg, and Frank of Katy; daughters, Mary Vacek and Claudia Wleczyk of Rosenberg; three brothers, Jerome Mensik of Weimar, Sidney Mensik of Rosenberg, and Silvin Mensik of Ammannsville; and two sisters, Mary Bartels of Needville and Eleanor Kloesel of Weimar. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park following Wednesday's service.
