Herald Coaster, December 6, 2000: Funeral services for John J. Mensik, 74, of Needville, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 7, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Beasley, with Father Henry Rachunek and Father Reginald Nesvadba officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Clarence Myers, Julius Nowak, Paul Wleczyk, Joe Gurecky, James Hopkins, John Vacek, David Mensik, and Paul Flessner. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 6, at Garmany & Carden Funeral Home in Rosenberg. Mr. Mensik was born Nov. 1, 1926 in Needville, and he died Monday, Dec. 4, 2000, at Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital in Houston. He was a former partner of Mensik Supermarket, a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of American Legion Post 271. He was a loving father, husband, and grandfather, and he knew no stranger. Survivors include his wife, Darlene Fuchs Mensik of Needville; two sons, Mark Mensik of Rosenberg and John Mensik of Carrollton; a stepson, Kevon Fuchs and his wife, Lynette, of Needville; a stepdaughter, Brenda Kunkel and her husband, O.W., of Needville; grandchildren, Brandon Mensik and Michael Mensik; step-grandchildren, Cody Kalkomey and his wife, Tamara, Kirby Kunkel, Kristopher Fuchs, Jayson Fuchs, Dylan Fuchs, Matt Kunkel and his wife, Jennifer, and Erin Kunkel; step-great-grandchildren, Branson Kalkomey, Taylor Kunkel and Kate Kunkel; brothers, Daniel Mensik of Rosenberg, Marvin Mensik and his wife, Alice, of Rosenberg, Frank Mensik and his wife, Adele, of Sugar Land; a sister, Claudia Wleczyk and her husband, Bennie, of Rosenberg; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Annie Mensik, and a sister, Mary Vacek. Services are under the direction of Garmany & Carden Funeral Dirs., Inc., 1201 Fourth St. in Rosenberg.
