Fort Bend Herald, December 16, 2018: In the early morning hours of Thursday, December 13, 2018, our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and cherished friend, Claudia Mensik Wleczyk passed away into eternal life. Our mother was born in 1932 into a large Catholic family of 7 in Ammannsville, TX. Mother spent her youth in the company of her first cousins (47!) many of whom she was very close to, running around the countryside of Weimar, Schulenburg, and Columbus. Mother played volleyball (no kneepads back then!) and softball as well which nurtured the sports fan she would be all of her life. Mother graduated from Lamar Consolidated High School, the school's first graduating class in 1949. Mother helped compose the high school alma mater. She was very proud of that. In her early 20's, Claudia married Benny Wleczyk and together they had 5 children. Family was her passion! With 4 girls and 1 boy, Mother was busy throwing herself full force into being a homemaker and raising a family. Mother was active and participated in Holy Rosary Catholic School activities and organizations as all 5 of her children were enrolled there. She was the quintessential "Mom". If her children were involved, she was there. In the 70's, Mom and Dad became owners and proprietors of a small business and continued that work for over 20 years. After the business was sold, grandchildren began to arrive and "MawMaw" was born. There were swim meets, baseball games, football games, volleyball games, cheer meets, and theater productions, and MawMaw was always on the first row. She didn't miss a one, and what a thrill it was to have her there cheering on all of her 11 grandchildren. Mother was a long time member of several Catholic organizations - KJZT, Catholic Daughters, Parish Council, Alter Society, and GrandPals at Holy Rosary School. At the school, she served as President and an active member of the PTO for many years. In 2013, Holy Rosary School bestowed The Claudia & Benny Wleczyk Student of Excellence Award to a deserving student in honor of Mother and Dad's longtime support and participation. Mother sang in the church choir and was the biggest Astros fan you've ever seen. Mother belonged to the same group of dedicated bunko players for over 20 years, all of whom she called friends. Mother was active in the Women's Auxiliary at OakBend Medical Center in Richmond. She belonged to a special and valued sect of hospital volunteers called the "Dedicated Ambassadors", and took great pride in meeting, greeting and directing hospital visitors every Thursday for over 22 years. Our beloved Mother was preceded in death by her parents, Edna and John E. Mensik; her sister, Mary Vacek; and brothers, Oscar, John, Marvin, and Daniel Mensik. She is survived by her husband, Benny; and children, Jeannie Bryant, Monica and husband, Barry Benton, Paul and wife, Beth Wleczyk, Laurie Wleczyk, and Benita and husband, Stephen Gill; as well as 11 grandchildren, Brandon Bryant, Blake Bryant, Brooke Benton, Belle Benton, Nick and wife, Taylor Wleczyk, Neil Wleczyk, Nathan Wleczyk, Nolan Wleczyk, Noah Wleczyk, Hannah Gill, Joshua Gill; as well as her brother, Frank and wife, Adele Mensik. In addition, many cousins and extended family mourn her loss. Services are as follows: Monday, December 17th, Visitation from 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Rosary at 7:00 pm, Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home, 3900 B.F. Terry Blvd., Rosenberg, TX. Tuesday, December 18th, Funeral Mass at 10:00 am, Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 1111 George Street, Rosenberg, TX. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Claudia's name to Holy Rosary Catholic School. "I have done my best in the race. I have run the full distance, and I have kept the faith." 2 Timothy 4:6-7.
