Herald Coaster, February 15, 1993: Due to remodeling, funeral services for Sidney Frank Mensik, 78, of Rosenberg, will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Richmond. A rosary service will be 7:30 p.m. Monday at Davis Chapel in Rosenberg. Burial will be at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Rosenberg. Father Eric Pitre will officiate. Sidney Frank Mensik was born Feb. 15, 1914 in Ammannsville. He died Feb. 13 at Gulf Coast Medical Center in Wharton. He was the son of Frank and Mary Walla Mensik. He was a longtime resident of Rosenberg, a parishioner of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Rosenberg, and a longtime member of KJZT Fraternal Association. He was retired from Duval Sulphur in Orchard and was a part-time farmer. For many years, he served as secretary of Slavonic Mutual Fire Insurance Association, Chapter 4. He served as the Grand Chapter Vice President of Slavonic Mutual from January 1976 until March 1, 1984, and Grand Chapter President from March 1984 to Dec. 31, 1989. His quick wit and humor will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by four sisters and eight brothers. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Edna Ulrich Mensik of Rosenberg; daughters and their husbands, Caroline and Wilbur Grohmann of Weimar, and Anna and Brick Hodge of Needville; sons, James Mensik of Rosenberg, Michael Mensik and his wife, Kathy, of Rock Springs, Wyoming, and Cletus Mensik and his wife, Margie, of Sugar Land; a sister, Eleanor Kloesel of Weimar; a brother, Silvin Mensik of Ammannsville; grandchildren, Eric Mensik of Sugar Land, Marissa Mensik, Matthew Mensik, and Lucas Mensik of Rock Springs, Wyoming, Nicholas Hodge, Clayton Hodge, Sarah Hodge, and Leslie Hodge of Needville, Gwynne Grohmann, Aaron Grohmann, and Kyle Grohmann of Weimar; several sisters-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Thomas Mensik, Earnest Mensik, Andrew Dennis Mensik, Dale Urbanek, Gilbert Koeppen Jr., and Nelson Psencik. In lieu of usual remembrances, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to Holy Rosary School Endowment Fund. Friends may call after 4 p.m. Monday at Davis Funeral Home in Rosenberg. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Davis Funeral Home in Rosenberg.
