Herald Coaster, May 12, 1969: Funeral services for M.F. (Matt) Mensik, 72, of Needville, who was commissioner for Precinct 2 in Fort Bend County for 10 years and also had served as tax assessor-collector for four years, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Michael's Catholic Church in Needville, with the Rev. Kenneth Mikulik officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park in Rosenberg. Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. tonight in the Garmany Funeral Home Chapel in Needville. Mr. Mensik had also served as mayor of Needville at one time. He died at 8 p.m. Sunday in Polly Ryon Memorial Hospital in Richmond. A native of Ammannsville, he had been a Needville resident for 48 years. He served as president of SMFIA for 20 years and was a member of the KJT, the American Legion, and the SPJST. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Helen Mensik; a daughter, Mrs. Stella Kennemer of West Columbia; brothers, John E. Mensik and Sidney Mensik, both of Rosenberg, Dr. Jerome J. Mensik of Weimar, Theophil Mensik, Silvin Mensik, and Andrew Mensik, all of Schulenburg; sisters, Mrs. Mary Bartels of Needville, Mrs. Vlasta Pokluda of Rosenberg, and Mrs. Eleanor Kloesel of Weimar; and seven grandchildren.
