Simeon McCown was born in what is now Lowndes County, Mississippi, May 23rd, 1828, and was married October, 1st, 1850, to Margaret Elizabeth Thomas. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church, having joined the same in 1849. In 1852 he moved to Arkansas and settled in Sevier County, but eventually moved to Hempstead County (now Howard County). He was made a Mason in Centre Point Lodge in 1857 and took the Royal Arch Degree June 27, 1860. In June 1861, he joined the Davis Blues at Nashville, was elected First Lieutenant of the company and served through the war as a brave and valant [sic] Confederate. His youngest brother died in Alabama, and his nephew died in Camp Douglas Prison in Chicago serving the same cause. Simeon and Margaret were the parents of 13 children, linked below. There were two other daughters, Frances and Columbia.
