Married Emily Catherine Ussery, 12 September 1844, Lowndes Co., Mississippi. They were the parents of 8 children: William H. (1845-1975), John F. (1847-1919), James R.(1849-1863), Francis D. (1851-1891), Samuel S. (1855-1880), Simeon M. (1860-1868), George G. (1862-1864), and Joseph W. McCown (1871-1942). George served as a Private in Capt. M.M. Rowan's Co., 24th Regiment Mississippi Volunteers for the Confederate States of America. He was enrolled 1 August 1861, in Caledonia, Mississippi, and mustered into service 11 October 1861 at Marion Station, Mississippi. This Company became Company D (Caledonia Rifles). George and Emily lived in Police District 2, with Post Office, Columbus in the 1870 census. He was probably buried in Lowndes Co., Mississippi.
