Bio

"Sim" was born in what was then Hempstead Co., near Nashville, son of Simeon McCown, and Margaret Elizabeth Thomas. Married Mary Ophelia Tugwell, 25 Aug 1886, Paris, Lamar Co., Texas. They were the parents of 9 children. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * "Mr. S. McCown," The Port Lavaca Wave (Texas), Thursday, 23 April 1925. Mr. S. McCown of Seadrift died at the family home Monday morning at 6:30 o'clock after a prolonged illness. Mr. McCown had been in bad health for several months. He has suffered much and bore his affliction well. He was a good christian man and loved by all who knew him. He was 62 years of age and was born in Arkansas. On the 25th day of August he married Ophelia Tugwell at Paris, Texas. The McCown family moved to Seadrift 12 years ago. A wife and 7 children are left to mourn the loss of the deceased. They are as follows, B.O. McCown, Mrs. W.W. Wilburn, Brice and Odus McCown, Mrs. Jack Smith, Miss Alma and Maurry [Maury] all of Seadrift. The fuseral [funeral] services were held at Seadrift Cemetery Monday afternoon at 5:00 o'clock by Bro. Perkins of Edna after which the services were completed uder [under] the auspices of the Ku Klux Klan. The wife and children of this good man have the deepest sympathy of all who knew and loved him.
