Bio

Ernest was the youngest child of 17 children of Johnnie Jefferson Martin. His mother was Johnnie's second wife Hattie Usher Dilley Martin. Marty was Career US Navy. He married Alta Maye Warnock and they had no children. In their retirement years, Marty and Maye lived in the old Martin Home place on Mechanicsburg Road between Mechanicburg and Phoenix. From Maye's Obit: Maye and Ernest Martin were married at the Satartia Baptist Church on October 12, 1947. The wedding was unique in that it was a double wedding of her and her sister Faye. The wedding party included two other sets of twins, her cousins Ailene and Carlene Warnock and her nephews Carl and Carroll Warnock. "Martin", as Ernest was known to family and friends, was also a native of the Phoenix area and when he retired from the Navy, he and Maye settled on his family home place. the "Old Martin Place" owned previously by her father-in-law, John J Martin. where they lived together until his death in 1992. Following his death, Maye continued to live on and take care of the farm until her death. At this time, there is only one "farm animal" left, her beloved dog, Lucky Lou, who not unlike Maye's family and friends misses her very much. Nephew Joe Danny Martin, who lives nearby, has adopted her.
