Bio
Son of Johnnie Jefferson Martin & Sarah (Sally) Leminda Smith Martin one of the founding families of Yazoo County, Mississippi. After the death of his mother, he was raised by his stepmother, "Cousin Hattie", (Hattie Dilley Martin.) and helped farm and worked in his father's country store. He had 3 siblings and 13 half siblings. He married Gracie Lee Smithhart and had 8 children. He worked at many different jobs to support his large family. (He hated farming and sought other jobs) His last job was as a postal mail carrier in the hills around Bentonia, MS. He died of prostate cancer. He was much loved by all his family.
