Bio

Herald Coaster, April 28, 1975: Funeral services for John Steffek, 87, of Needville, were held at 2 p.m. April 22, from St. Michael's Catholic Church in Needville, with the Rev. Ludon Angelle officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Mr. Steffek died early Sunday at Polly Ryon Memorial Hospital. A retired farmer, he was a resident of this area for over 50 years. He was a native of Czechoslovakia. Survivors include daughters, Miss Marcella Steffek of Needville and Miss Cecilia Steffek of Houston, Mrs. Mary Zwahr of Needville, Mrs. Alma Martin, Mrs. Evelyn Skellie, and Mrs. Loretta Whittington, all of Houston; sons, Jerry Steffek of Needville, Victor Steffek of El Campo, John Steffek of Lake Jackson, Emil Steffek of Freeport; one brother, Fred Steffek of Weimar; 21 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were grandsons, Dr. John Charles Steffek, Randall Steffek, Lawrence Zwahr, Alphonse Zwahr, Michael Schwettmann, Marc Schwettmann. Honorary pallbearers were Joel Skelli and Jason Steffek, also grandsons.
