Fort Bend Herald, March 1, 2007: John August Steffek, long-time Needville resident and cattle rancher, was born August 28, 1915 in Dubina, Texas to John and Frances (Skrovan) Steffek and he passed away February 26, 2007 in a Houston hospital. He is preceded in death by his wife, Alsace Lorraine Steffek, his parents, John and Frances Steffek and numerous siblings. John is survived by his sons, Jason Logan Steffek and John Charles Steffek and his wife, Mary Ann. He is also survived by grandchildren, Haden Anthony Steffek, John Logan Steffek; brother, Jerry Steffek; Sisters, Alma Martin, Evelyn Skellie, Loretta Whittington; along with other family and friends. John was raised in Needville, having graduated from Needville High School. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Army, and served with the Headquarter and Bomb Squadron, 69th Air Service Group as a finance technical clerk. He later went on to become a Research Chemist for Dow Chemical for over 36 years. He was a cattle rancher who enjoyed working with his cows on the farm. He was also a faithful and dedicated member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Needville. Visitation will be held from 5:00-8:00 P. M., Thursday, March 1, 2007, with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 P. M., at the Davis Chapel in Needville, Texas. A funeral mass will be held at 2:00 P. M., Friday, March 2, 2007 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Needville, Texas with interment following at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Rosenberg, Texas. The Rev. James Ramsey will officiate the services. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in memory of John to the Alzheimer’s Association, Houston & Southeast Chapter, 2242 W.
