Minia "Minnie" Van Berkum, 93, of Rock Valley died Sunday, Sept. 18,1994, at Hegg Memorial Health Center in Rock Valley. Services were at the Carmel Reformed Church with the Rev. Brad Langstraat officiating. Burial was in the Carmel Cemetery under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home, Sioux Center. Mrs. Van Berkum was born Dec. 27, 1901, in Plato Township, Sioux Center, the daughter of Teodor and Trienje (Deroos) Feekes. She married William Tunis Van Berkum Feb. 27, 1923, in Carmel. The couple lived and farmed near Carmel. She took care of the farm after her husband's health failed. She also assisted in raising her daughter's eight children. Mrs. Van Berkum was a member of Carmel Reformed Church, rural Rock Valley, where she was involved with the Ladies Aid and various other groups. Survivors include a son-in-law, Milton Sandbulte of Rock Valley; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Ruth Van Berkum of Spencer; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Attie Schoep and a brother-in-law, Neal Vonk, both of Rock Valley. She was preceded in death by her husband, a daughter, Thelma Sandbulte and a son, Wilmer Van Berkum. Rock Valley Bee 1994-09-28.
