Whintey Messenger Thursday June 7, 1945 A.J. (Hanse) Shelley of Huron died at his home Tuesday, June 5, following a long illness. Funeral arrangements as announced Wednesday were that the service will be held in Huron Baptist Church at 10 o'clock Thursday morning, conducted by Rev. F.E. Weller of Whitney and Jim Allen of Fort Worth. Interment will be in Heath Cemetery and details will be carried in the Messenger next week. Whitney Messenger Thursday June 14, 1945 The Messenger last week carried an article stating that A. J. (Hanse) Shelley, one of the most widely know and highly respected citizens of the Huron community, passed away Tuesday night, June 5, at 7:30 o'clock at the home of his daughter Mrs. S.G. Standridge, 512 North Wood Street, Cleburne, where he had been seriously ill for about a week. A native of Georgia, he was born December 26, 1870. In 1891 he moved to Huron where he had lived until the past few past few years when ill health had compelled him to live with his children. He united in marriage to Miss Bettie P. Wallace Oct. 1, 1893, and she departed this life November 1, 1932. The deceased was engaged in the merchantile business and farming and had formerly served as county commisioner for several years. He had been a member of the Baptist Church for 53 years, and was a senior deacon and had served as a Sunday School Superintendent for many years. He was a member of the Whitney Masonic Lodge, was a 32nd degree degree Mason, a Knight Templar and a Shriner. Funeral services were held from the Baptist Church at Huron last Thursday, June 7, at 10:30 o'clock, with Rev. F.E. Weller of Whitney and Rev. James H. Allen of Fort Worth officiating. Crozier-Pearson Funeral Home of Cleburne had charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were grandsons: S Sgt. Andrew Shelley, SSgt. W. Lee Grant, Edgar Shelley, Hollis Shelley, Bryan Manning and Charles Herman. Survivors include four daughters: Mrs. S.G. Standridge, Cleburne; Mrs. J.A. Holley, Mineral Wells; Mrs Mautilla Smith, Dallas; Mrs. Maggie Crabtree, Meridan; a son; S.S. Shelley, of Cleburne; two brothers: J.W. Shelley, Whitney and T.M. Shelley, Lubbock; 16 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Interment was at Heath Cemetery with the Masonic Faternity in charge.
