Whitney Messenger Friday August 16, 1929 Virgil L. Shelley, son of Mr. and Mrs. A.J. Shelley of near Huron, died in a Dallas Hospital on Saturday, August 10, 1929, aged 31 years, 2 months and 13 days. The body was returned to the home of his father and on Sunday afternoon funeral services were held from the Huron Tabernacle, conducted by Rev. Bullard and Rev. E.D. Head, after which the body was tenderly laid to rest in the Heath Cemetery, under the auspices of Blum Masonic Lodge of which he was a member. Virgil was married to Miss Jewel Bromley and to this union were born four children, all of whom survive. He is also survived by one brother, S.S. Shelley, of Blum, and two sisters, Mrs. Edna Holley and Mrs. Mabel Standridge, both of Cleburne. Mr. Shelley had the misfortune some years ago of getting lye in his eyes and was operated upon some two weeks ago for some kind of growth over the eyes. He did very well for a time, but grew suddenly worse a short time before the end came. For the past year or more, due to his misfortune, he and his family had made their home with his father and mother. He was a good Christian man of exemplary habits and was a member of the Baptist Church. The Messenger, joined by a host of friends, extend condolence to the bereaved ones.
