Bio

Whitney Messenger Friday November 4, 1932 Mrs. A.J. (Hanse) Shelley passed away at her late home north of Huron Tuesday, November 1st. after an illness of several weeks. The funeral services were held at the Huron Baptist Church at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday conducted by Rev. Marsh Boiles and F.E. Weller, after which interment was made in the Huron Cemetery. Mrs. Bettie P. Shelley was born in Paducah, Kentucky September 30, 1872. She moved to Texas with her parents when three years of age. She was married to A.J. Shelley October 1, 1893. To this union were born five children, viz., Sidney of Bardwell, Texas; Ada, who died in infancy; Virgil, who died in 1929; Mrs. Edna Holley of Cleburne; Mrs. Mabel Standridge, of Cleburne. She mothered for several years two orphaned girls, Mrs. A.C. Crabtree, of Meridan and Mrs. J.L. Burke, of Dallas. She also leaves 14 granchildren. She was converted and joined the Towash Baptist Church at the age of fifteen. A few years later she joined the Fort Graham Baptist Church of which she was a member for 13 years. She then moved to the Huron Community where she united with that congregation and worshipped for 26 years. During all these years she served her Master faithfully till the end on Nov. 1, 1932, aged 60 years, 1 month and 1 day. The large concourse of neighbors and friends that attended the last service of this sainted mother bore silent testimony of her standing in her home community. The bereaved husband and children have the sympathy of everyone.
