Bio

Mabel Landes Adams, 89, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2011 at the Golden Living Center in Taylorsville, UT. One of eleven children, she was born to Samuel and Elizabeth (Elsie) Landes in Deer Creek, IL on January 14, 1921. She served in the WAVES in World War II and married James W. Adams at Pocatello, Idaho immediately after the war. Mr. Adams served in the Marine Corps in the South Pacific during the war. Mabel worked for the Utah Dept. of Employment Security and the University of Utah as a keypunch operator. She was also a mainstay in keypunch operations with the Union Pacific RR. She enjoyed bowling, line-dancing, music of any kind, and the theater. One of her most memorable experiences was singing with the Bountiful Sweet Adelines, a group which took fifth place in the National Competition in Washington, DC. Mabel was an active member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Salt Lake City for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, James, seven brothers and sisters, Elizabeth L. Streitmatter, Bruce Landes, Dorothy L. Krantz and Raymond Landes, all of Morton, IL. Sherman Landes and Sylvia L. King of Washington, IL, Violet L. Reeser of Deer Creek, IL. She is survived by her son James F. Adams of Salt Lake City and three siblings, Florence L. Mabee of Peoria, IL, Margaret L. England of Circleville, OH, and Gilbert Landes of Atlanta, GA. Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary, 1950 East Dimple Dell Road (10600 South). Friends may visit the family from 12:30-2:00 p.m. prior to the services. Published in the Salt Lake Tribune on January 16, 2011.
