The Nelson Gazette (Nelson, NE), Thursday, November 14, 1963; pg. 5 Dr. Theodore Svoboda, son of Frank and Antonio Svoboda, was born at Lawrence, Neb., on March 23, 1892 and passed away while on vacation at Brownsville, Tenn., on Oct. 28, 1963 at the age of 71 years, 7 months and 5 days. He spent his childhood on a farm in Nuckolls county (sic), Nebr., near Lawrence, except for a short time when his family resided near Little Rock, Ark. He was the last of nine children. On June 14, 1920 he married Frances Eve Zikmund at Deweese, Nebr., and to them a son and a daughter were born. Dr. Svoboda was a graduate of Needles Institute of Optometry in Kansas City, Mo., in 1915 and later attended and was graduated with distinction from Bradley Horological School, Peoria, Ill., in 1926. He enlisted and served his country during World War I, being discharged Nov. 15, 1918. He owned and operated a jewelry at Nelson, Nebr., until 1939 when he moved to Fairbury. He enjoyed the respect and confidence of his patients and colleagues during his 37 years of practice. Of an ingenious mind, Dr. Svoboda invented tools and equipment for use in his own profession, and also enjoyed good literature and the arts. He was a member of the Fairbury Methodist church. Survivors include his wife, Frances of Fairbury; son, Theodore Dwane in the Marine Corps presently stationed in the Far East; and a daughter, Mrs. Ruby Frances Noll of Pleasant Gap, Tenn.; four grandchildren and one great grandchild. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon in the Fairbury Methodist church with the pastor, Rev. Donald Littrell, officiating. Mrs. William Nuckolls and Mrs. Jack Hughes sang and Mrs. Frank Hall was organist. Pallbearers were Ed Mazour, Enos Mazour, Bill Svoboda, Alvin Svoboda, Frank Svoboda and Roy Drapal. Burial was in the Fairbury cemetery (sic).
