Anton Svoboda Dies Suddenly Wednesday Anton Svoboda, prominent farmer for many years, living on the farm north of Lawrence, adjoining Delphi passed away suddenly about four o'clock Wednesday afternoon at a Hastings hospital. In poor health for some time from high blood pressure, Mr. Svoboda was stricken while in his car on a Hastings street and was taken by members of the family to the hospital. Death resulted a short time later from a brain hemorrhage and was entirely unexpected. Surviving are his wife, two sons William J. and Bernard and three daughters Agnes, Eva and Millie, all at home. Also a sister, Mrs. Louis Mazour of Fairfield and five brothers as follows: John and Adolph of Lawrence, Joe of Deweese, Ed of Kenesaw and Theodore of Fairbury. Funeral arrangements are not complete. The Lawrence Locomotive (Lawrence, NE), Thursday, September 7, 1939; pg. 1 ====================== Obituary Anton Svoboda was born near Lawrence on November 4, 1884, the son of Frank and Antone Svoboda, and passed away at Hastings on September 6, 1939 aged 54 years, 10 months, 2 days. His death came very suddenly at a hospital after he had collapsed in his car on a Hastings street. At the age of sixteen he moved with his mother and other members of the family to Arkansas, where later he worked for a real estate firm. Returning with his folks to Nebraska in 1905 he started farming in 1907, northwest of town and in 1910 purchased from his brother John, the farm, which remained his home until his untimely death. A man of many trades he was a competent carpenter, mason and blacksmith and in 1917 erected a new home on his farm, which remains today as one of the finest country homes in the vicinity. Mr. Svoboda was married at Sacred Heart church, Lawrence on April 27, 1909 to Miss Frances Juranek. To this union was born three sons and three daughters, five of whom survive with the wife and mother. Surviving children are Eva, Millie, William J., Agnes and Verne. A son Thomas died in 1916 at the age of six months. Also surviving are his brothers John and Adolph of Lawrence, Ed. of Kenesaw, Theodore of Fairbury and Joe of Deweese, and a sister Mrs. Mary Mazour of Fairfield. Funeral services were held at Sacred Heart church Friday morning last, conducted by the pastor Rev. Chas. A. Becker . Burial was made in the Catholic cemetery. Pall bearers were the five brothers of the deceased and Joe Juranek, Jr., a brother-in-law. Arrangements were in charge of Merten Bros.
