Bio

The Nelson Gazette (Nelson, NE), Thursday, September 11, 1924; pg. 7: LAWRENCE The Lawrence Locomotive. This community was shocked and grieved Monday noon last, when the word passed that Frank Svoboda, aged, 56, living four miles due north of Lawrence, had died following an operation for relief from a bursted intestine. The cause for the sudden attack which resulted in his death is reported to have been started last Friday evening when Mr. Svoboda was out doing chores, he was kicked in the abdomen by a calf striking an old rupture which proved fatal within the two following days. On examination, Dr. Dierker advised that Mr. Svoboda be taken at once to the hospital, where it was found that the man's condition was very grave and while relief was sought with all possible haste, there was small hope that he could long survive. Everything possible was done to help the injured man, but death claimed him atthe (sic) hour stated, despite the best efforts medical aid could offer. Mr. Svoboda was a fine type of citizen and a man highly respected wherever known. Born in a foreign country he knew well how great is the privilege to be an American citizen and his patriotism, while quiet and unassuming, as was his habit, was sound and dependable. Frugal and industrious, he went about his daily labors with a kindly feeling toward the world, neither grasping nor complaining. Frank met each day and friend with the same even temper and good will that he had parted in the day before. He had resided here many years and the community deeply sympathize with the bereaved family in the great loss that has come upon them in the death of husband and father.
