The Edgar Sun (Edgar NE) Thu - Jul 2, 1959 - Page 1 One Son Survives Moravian Native, Joseph Svoboda Joseph Svoboda, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Svoboda, was born January 13, 1871, in Moravia, and died June 21 at the Mary Lanning Memorial hospital (sic), at the age of 88 years, 5 months and 8 days. He came to America at the age of 12 with his parents. They settled on a farm west of Deweese where he grew to manhood. In February, 1895, he was united in marriage to Mary Chvala. They lived on a farm in the Fairfield community until 1928 when they moved to Deweese. Preceding him in death were his wife, one son, and one daughter. Survivors are his son, Joseph; three grandchildren; three great grandchildren; one brother, Theodore Svoboda of Fairbury. Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 23 at the Assumption Catholic church (sic) at Deweese. A requiem high mass was offered by Rev. Anthony Trausch, who also officiated at the burial services at St. Martin's cemetery (sic) Pall bearer were Edward Mazour, Tom Kucera, Frank and William Svoboda and Louis and Bill Chvala.
