Funeral services for James Petska Sr., pioneer settler of the Geranium community, who died Wednesday at the age of 93, were held Saturday in the Our Lady's Church, Ord. The Rev. Stanley Gorak celebrated the requiem Mass, and pallbearers were, Louis Petska, Adolph Kokes, John Andersen, Leonard Fuxa, Lumir Ptacnik and William Beran Sr. Rosery was recited Friday night and burial was in the Ord Catholic Cemetery. Hastings-Pearson Mortuary in charge of arrangments. Mr Petska was born Sept 22, 1867 in Pisku, Czechoslavakia, to John and Barbara Petska. In 1871 he and his parents, one brother,one sister,an uncle and grandmother, came to the US settling in Conover Iowa, moving in 1883 to a homestead nine miles west of Ord, in Geraniuym township. He lived on the home place the rest of his life. On Febr. 13, 1893 he married Anna Ptacnik in the Geranium Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife, two daughters, Mrs Emma Kardik of Pocahontas Iowa, and Mrs Anna Puncochar of Grand Island Nebr., four sons, James Jr. of Ord, John of Ord, Joe of Elyria and William of Ord; two sisters, Mrs. Anna Papousek of Moorland Iowa and Mrs Frances Andersen of Ord; 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
