W. A. Zatopek, Crash Victim, Dies; Rites Thurs. W. A. (Bill) Zatopek, 75, of West died early Wednesday morning in a Waco hospital as a result of injuries received in an automobile accident near West on Nov. 26. The accident occurred two miles west of town on FM 2114. Zatopek’s car apparently left the road and struck a culvert. Because his death resulted from injuries in 1971, it will be carried as the county’s 36th traffic fatality for that year. Rosary was recited at 8 p.m. Wednesday in St. Mary’s Catholic Church of the Assumption in West. Requiem mass was celebrated at noon Thursday, Jan. 13 in St. Mary’s Catholic Church of the Assumption, with Rev. B.J. Zientek as celebrant. Burial was in St. Mary’s Cemetery in West. Mr. Zatopek had lived in West most of his life. He was the owner and operator of the Alamo Garage and Alamo Package Store in West for many years. He was born in 1896. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church of the Assumption, a member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 2305 in West and a member of KJZT Lodge No. 31. He was a retired member of the West Volunteer Fire Department. He is survived by his wife; one son, William Calvin Zatopek of Austin; one daughter, Mrs. A.W. (Dorothy) Marchak of Galveston; three brothers, Elo Zatopek of West, John Zatopek of Abbott, and Ed Zatopek of Milwaukee, Wis., five sisters, Mrs. Jim (Annie) Bezdek, Mrs. Joe (Frances) Snokhous, and Mrs. Joe (Mary) Gaidusek, all of West, Mrs. Joe (Julia) Loewenstein of Houston and Mrs. Lillian Lusk of Texarkana; six grandchildren.
