Businessman & Civic Leader Elo Zatopek, Dies at Age 73 Elo O. Zatopek, 73, of West died Sunday afternoon in a Waco hospital. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, Rev. George Doskocil celebrant. Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Monday in Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel. Mr. Zatopek was a native of Fayetteville County, but had lived in the West area for the past 55 years. He married Hattie Popp in West, January 1916. He began working for Pierce-Fordyce Oil Co. in 1925. That company later became Sinclair Oil Co. Mr. Zatopek worked there as a field marketer until he retired in 1972. Mr. Zatopek was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West, KJT Society No. 31, Knight of Columbus Council 2305, SPJST Lodge No. 6 in Cottonwood and RVOS Lodge Marak No. 47. He had been city commissioner in West from 1958-68, president of West Chamber of Commerce, fire chief and longtime member of West Volunteer Fire Department. He also served as chairman of West Rodeo Association when it began. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Hattie Zatopek of West; three sons, Elo J. Zatopek of Erie, Pa., and Royce Zatopek and Donald Zatopek, both of West; two brothers, John Zatopek of Abbott and Ed Zatopek of El Paso; four sisters, Mrs. Marie Gaidusek and Mrs. Anna Bezdek, both of West, Mrs. Julie Lowenstein of Houston and Mrs. Lillian Brooks of Texarkana; and two grandchildren. Pallbearers were Henry Snokhous, Johnny Kubala, Billy Schroeder, Kenneth Popp, Johnny Gaidusek, Ed Bettge. Honorary Pallbearers: Albin Dvoracek, Victor Jares, Stanley Martin, Joe E.
