Bio

Elo J. Zatopek, age 82, of Woodway, passed away Monday evening, December 5, 2016 at Wesley Woods Health and Rehabilitation in Waco. A rosary will be recited 5:00 p.m. Sunday at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West, with visitation to follow until 7:00 p.m. Graveside services will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, December 12, 2016 at St. Mary's Cemetery near West, with Rev. Cyril Ejaidu and Deacon Greg George officiating. Elo was born October 4, 1934 in West, the son of Elo and Hattie (Popp) Zatopek. He attended St. Marys School and then attended Texas A&M where he played baseball and was a member of the 1956 Southwest Conference winning team. After graduating from Texas A&M in 1956, he entered the United States Army and served his country as a 2nd lieutenant. After his time in the service, Elo began a long lasting career with Sinclair Refining Company, Atlantic Richfield Co, British Petroleum and Sunoco Oil Co. His career moved the family to many states and afforded them the opportunity to meet and maintain lasting friendships throughout the United States. On April 4, 1964, he was united in marriage to Nancy Felz. Elo was a member of St. Jerome's Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Elk Club in Houston. Elo is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Royce Zatopek Sr. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Nancy Jan (Felz) Zatopek of Woodway; his daughter, Leah Stanley and husband Jack of Terrell; a granddaughter, Chelsea Oliver and husband Gage; great grandchildren, Gage Rylan and Ambree RayAnne Oliver; a brother, Donald "Butch" Zatopek; a sister-in-law, Virginia Zatopek; and several other relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association of Waco or Fuzzy Friends. The Family would like to say a huge Thank You to Dr. Sam Ralston, Chris Johnson and all of the Fabulous staff at Wesley Woods, for their care and compassion during multiple stays during the past few years.
