Mr. Ben L. Vanek, 87, of Itasca, 87, of Itasca died Monday, April 22, 1996, in a local hospital. Rosary was recited at 7:30 p.m. April 23 at Edens Funeral Home Chapel in Hillsboro with the Rev. A.J. LaFleur, O.S.A., officiating. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10:30 a.m. April 24 at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Hillsboro with the Rev. A.J. LaFleur, O.S.A., as celebrant. Interment followed at St. Mary's Cemetery in West. He was born July 16, 1908, in Leroy and was the son of Ludvik and Philomena Blahuta Vanek. He grew up and attended school in Penelope and Cottonwood. He married Mary Hutyra on October 22, 1935, in West. He lived in West before moving to Itasca in 1944 and was a member of Our Lady Of Mercy Catholic Church in Hillsboro. Survivors include his wife, Mary Vanek of Itasca; three sons and daughters-in-law, Bernard Vanek of Itasca, Johnny and Dorothy Vanek of Waco, and Al and Elizabeth Vanek of Sunnyvale; one daughter and son-in-law, Bernice and Alois Petter of Mesquite, four sisters, Adela Bezdek of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Tracy Sulak and Anita Beidek, both of Corpus Christi and Estelle Stanislav of West; ten grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. Active pallbearers were Randy Vanek, Greg Vanek, Patrick Vanek, Paul Vanek, Ray Vanek, and Darrell Petter. Honorary pallbearers were Kim Drews, Dale Horn, and Price Clifford.
