Bio

Mary Ann Vanek, age 87 of West, formerly of Itasca, passed away early Monday morning, February 18, 2002 at West Rest Haven. A rosary will be recited 7 p.m. on Tuesday at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West, by Rev. Henry Petter and Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrants. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery near West. Mrs. Vanek was born on February 1, 1915 in West to Vinc and Christine (Ondrej) Hutyra and she was raised in the Rogers Hills area. She graduated from Aquilla High School in 1932. She married Ben L. Vanek on October 22, 1935 in West. He preceded her in death on April 22, 1996. She worked as a homemaker and seamstress. She enjoyed fishing, quilting, canning, crafts, painting and gardening. Mary loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West and a former member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Hillsboro, where she was a member of the Altar Society. She was also a member of K.J.Z.T. Society #105. She is preceded in death by a son, Bernard Vanek, who passed away in 1999; and two brothers, Edwin Hutyra and Jerry Hutyra. She is survived by two sons, Johnny Vanek and wife Dorothy of Waco, and Al Vanek and wife Elizabeth of Sunnyvale; one daughter, Bernice Petter and husband Alois of Mesquite; one brother, Robert Hutyra of West; one sister, Martha Macicek of West; ten grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Active pallbearers will be Randy Vanek, Greg Vanek, Patrick Vanek, Ray Vanek, Paul Vanek and Darrell Petter. Honorary pallbearers will be Dale Horn, Justin Drews, Price Clifford and Michael Hart.
