Bio
Anita Vanek Bezdek, age 90, passed away peacefully in her sleep Friday, April 9, 2010, at a Rowlett nursing home. Anita was a devout Catholic and received a final blessing, anointing of the sick, and Holy Communion Wednesday evening. A rosary will be recited at Maxwell P. Dunne Funeral Home Monday, April 12 at 7:00 p.m. in Corpus Christi. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church Tuesday, April 13 at 10 a.m. with burial at Seaside Memorial Park to follow. Anita was born in West, Texas, to Ludvik and Philomena Blahuta Vanek on September 20, 1919. She attended schools in Cottonwood and West and grew up on the family farm located just outside the city of West. She married her husband, Henry, on October 14, 1941 in West. In 1945, Anita and her family moved to Corpus Christi and lived there approximately fourteen years before moving to Alice, Texas because of a work transfer. Anita and Henry later returned to Corpus Christi where he died April 23, 1981. Anita was employed as a sales associate at J.C. Penney's for approximately ten years and volunteered at her church throughout the years in many capacities. She was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed gardening and delighted in family visits from her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a lifelong member of K.J.Z.T. and the Ladies Altar Society at her church. Anita was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, four brothers, Frank Vanek of Abbott, Ben Vanek of Itasca, Louis Vanek of Penelope, and Edwin Vanek of Clifton; two sisters, Annie Vanek of West and Teresa Sulak of Corpus Christi and one granddaughter, Kathy David of Garland. She is survived by two sisters, Adele Bezdek of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and Estelle Stanislav of West, and two sisters-in-law: Christine Kocian Vanek of West and Betty Munn Vanek of Clifton. Her children are Robert Bezdek of Corpus Christi, Jo Ann David and husband Joe of Garland, and Betty Schlottman and husband Mitch of Ennis. Her surviving grandchildren are Jeff David and wife Tammy of Bryan, Tim Schlottman of Lewisville, Tanner and wife Brandi of Ennis, Trinity Schlottman of Las Vegas, Nevada, Robbie Bezdek and wife Amy of Dallas, Elliott Schlottman of Stephenville, and Samantha Bezdek of Corpus Christi. She is also survived by five great grandchildren Lane, Chase and Tandi Schlottman of Ennis and Haven and Hadleigh David of Bryan. Pallbearers are her grandchildren.
