Jim J. Mashek, 83, of West died Tuesday, April 23, at a local hospital. Rosary was recited at 8 p.m. Tuesday in Kotch Funeral Home Chapel. Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Monsignor George Doskocil celebrant. Burial followed at St. Mary's Cemetery. Mr. Mashek was born Aug. 11, 1901, in West, and he lived in the West area all of his life. He was married to Jennie Krenek in 1928 in Penelope. Mr. Mashek was a retired farmer and had been employed at the West Flour Mill for a number of years. Hew was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council 2305 and the KJT Society No. 31. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Wesley Mashek of Lorena and Sammy Mashek of Eddy; a daughter, Mrs. Lawrence (Evelyn) Hlavaty of Waco; a brother, Ed Mashek of West; two sisters, Mrs. Herman (Rosie) Grimm of Tours and Christine Stanislav of West; and five grandchildren. Pallbearers were Frank Hutyra, Joe Edd Grimm, Raymond Matus, Johnny Krenek, Willie Matus and Ed Mashek, Jr. Kotch Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
