Bio

Christine Bernadette Hejl Marek, age 87, of West, passed away early Friday morning, April 21, 1989 at West Community Hospital. A rosary was recited at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel. Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at 4 p.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption with Msgr. Ray Widacki as Celebrant. Burial followed in St. Mary's Cemetery. Mrs. Marek was born November 23, 1901 in Orechov, Czechoslovakia, the youngest of ten children of John and Antonia Burian Hejl. She attended Tokio School and was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West where she married Adolph L. Marek on November 14, 1923. He preceded her in death on July 8, 1952. They spent their entire married life farming at Abbott, and while there they assisted in building the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. After the death of her husband she resided in Waco, Clear Lake City, and Marlin where she was a member of the Catholic Church in each city, and was active in Guild Groups supporting the churches. She tried to make the world a more beautiful place with her gardens and her handiwork. She was preceded in death by a son, Bill Marek, April 24, 1988. She is survived by her daughter, Dorothy Calmelet of Houston; one son-in-law, H.D. Calmelet, Sr. of Houston; one daughter-in-law, Laura Nan Marek of Marlin; five grandsons, Harry Douglas Calmelet, Jr. of San Bernardino, California, Gary Brian Calmelet of United Arab Emerirates, Stephen Rene Calmelet of Houston, William Craig Marek and Larry Todd Marek, both of College Station; and one great-grandson, Andre Thomas Calmelet. Pallbearers were James Barton, Ernest Jaska, Joe Mach, David Macik, Ernest Nors, and John Sinkule. The West News, West, Texas, Volume 99, No. 17, Edition 1, Thursday, April 27, 1989, page 8.
