Joe Makovy, age 77, of West died Saturday, September 18 at his home. Mass of Christian burial was at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Rev. Walter Matus officiating. Burial was at St. Mary's Cemetery. Rosary was recited at 7:30 p.m. Monday at Kotch Funeral Home Chapel. Mr. Makovy was born August 23, 1905, in Hill County. He had been a resident of West the past four years after living most of his life in the Abbott area. He was married to Lillian Helona in 1931. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a retired farmer and a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Marvin (Helen) Matus of Dallas and Mrs. Mary Ann Ward of Houston; four sisters, Mrs. Mary Marek and Willie Mae Makovy, both of West, Mrs. Sophie Beseda of Abbott and Mrs. Christine Rejcek of Penelope; and five grandchildren. Pallbearers were Michael Matus, Gregory Matus, Richard Matus, Robert Mach, Charles Beseda and John David Kubala. Kotch Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
