Mrs. Marie Jares Dies; Rites Held In West Monday Mrs. Marie Marak Jares, 70, died at 11:30 p.m. Friday, October 7, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Joe Polasek in West. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, at the Church of Assumption, Msgr. I. J. Valenta officiated, assisted by Msgr. Alois Morkovsky of Hallettsville. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery. Rosary was recited at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Aderhold-Moore Chapel; Rev. James Quilter officiated. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Mary Renze of Whitier, California, and Mrs. Polasek; one brother, Frank Marak of West; one sister, Mrs. Albina Walla of West; and seven grandchildren. Mrs. Jares was born and raised in West, living here until February 1942 when she moved to Yoakum where she served as Supreme Treasurer of the KJZT. Two weeks prior to her death, Mrs. Jares had undergone major surgery in a Waco hospital and was recuperating at her daughter's home. She was reported to be recovering rapidly, and became critically ill only 30 or 40 minutes before she died. Mrs. Jares, one of four children of Mary and Frank Marak, was born on June 27, 1890 in West. Her brother, Edmund Marak, died in 1949. Her father, who would have been 98 on Oct. 8, died in July of this year. Her husband, Will Jares, passed away on January 29, 1960. Three children preceded her in death, Edith, was 4 months old when she died; Charles, 16, died on May 15, 1935; and Clara, 23, died on October 23, 1940. While living in West, Mrs. Jares was an employee at the old Globe Dry Goods, later she worked at the C. L. Harris Dry Goods. She served as financial secretary of the West Branch of KJZT for 18 years, being elected in 1923. She was elected Supreme Directress of the KJZT in 1930 and served in that capacity until 1941. At that time she was honored by being elected KJZT Supreme Treasurer. She resigned her position in West and moved to Yoakum where the main office of KJZT is located. She worked there faithfully for almost 19 years. KJZT is a fraternal organization of almost 19,000 Catholic women, carrying various types of insurance, with assets of over four and a half million. Active pallbearers were: Tim Maresh, Roman Bartosh, Frank Seith, Herman Grimm, John Kubala, and Joe Alexander. Among the out-of-town clergy attending the funeral were Rev. Tim Valenta of Bryan, Rev. E. J. Jansky of Yoakum, and Rev. Victor Goertz, personal representative of Bishop L. J. Reicher of the Austin Diocese.
