Bio

Mary Frances "Tana" Jares Renze passed away peacefully September 18, 2016, in Whittier, California. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Reverend Ray Maiser on September 28 at St. Mary's of the Assumption Catholic Church in Whittier, where Tana was a member for over 60 years. Tana will be laid to rest at Queen of Heaven Cemetery following services next to her husband Frederick James Renze II. Mary Frances, always known as Tana, daughter of William Charles Jares and Marie Mary Marak Jares, was born July 4, 1925 in West. She was raised in West, attended St. Mary's School and graduated from West High School in 1943. Tana met husband Fred (Frederick) Renze while working at James Connally Air Force Base near Waco. The couple was united in marriage on February 23, 1952 in Sacramento, Calif. And soon moved to Whittier, Calif., where Fred became an Industrial Engineer for McDonnell Douglas and Boeing Aircraft. There, they raised their five children, built a beautiful home and later a cabin in Green Valley Lake where many summers were spent in the cool San Bernardino Mountains. After Tana's children were grown, she became a real estate broker in the Whittier area. Tana and Fred delighted in bringing their five children to Texas almost every summer for July 4th fireworks celebrations or in mid-December spreading cheer at Christmas at their Aunt Dorothy Polasek's home in West. Later Tana and her grown children would bear the heat but love the fun of Westfest. One of her favorite delights was seeing the wide-open blue Texas skies filled with white puffs of clouds. Her roots in West ran deep as she remained the owner of the original Jares-Marak farm near West until her death. Tana loved her Czech heritage and traveled to all the Painted Churches in Texas, but nothing could match her loyalty to St. Mary's Church of the Assumption in West, where she was a benefactor of the St. Mary's Parish Center and the Holy Infant of Prague Prayer Garden. She was also very involved as a Catholic Daughter (CDA) when she lived in West and continued her involvement at her parish in Whittier. Anytime Tana came to Texas, her cousin Rose Kubacak stayed busy in the kitchen baking a "busload of buchta" for Tana to take back to her California freezer so she and her family could enjoy Rose's buchta year round. Tana was preceded in death by her parents and husband, sisters Dorothy Jares Polasek, Klara Jares, Edith Marie Jares and brother Charles (Charlie) William Jares. Her loved ones left behind are son, Rick Renze and wife Sandie of Whittier, Calif., daughters, Carol Ferguson and husband Ron of Whittier, Calif., Tana Ann Hausch and husband Bill of Manhattan Beach, Calif., Joan Doherty and husband Bill of Whittier, Calif., and Barbara Renze Basham of Austin. Tana's grandchildren are Tyson Renze, Molly Renze, Andrew Ferguson and wife Courtney, Chase Ferguson, Melanie Vezzuso and husband Robert, Sarah Katherine (Katie) Oldfield and fiancé Shamus Fenady, Andrew Jares (A.J.) Oldfield, Mary Margaret Doherty, Mike Buckley and wife Andrea, Joey Basham and Elli Basham. Great-grandchildren are Austin Ferguson, Nathan Ferguson, Wade Vezzuso, Rocco Vezzuso, and Baby Vezzuso to be born in early April, Aaron Buckley, Jason Buckley, and another great-grandson, Theodore Shay Fenady to be born in December. Other survivors are special nephews, Michael Polasek and wife Linda of Blue Ridge, Texas, and Joe Polasek and wife Missy of Boerne, Texas. Tana also leaves her special cousin Rose Kubacak of West and a host of other cousins and their families in the West community.
