Charles Jares Dies of Pneumonia Attack; Ill Only Few Days Charles William Jares, 16-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Jares, died at his home here Saturday afternoon, May 15, at about 2 o'clock, following an illness of only a few days. Physicians gave pneumonia as the cause of his death. Funeral services were held at 9:00 a.m. Monday from the residence and at 9:30 from the Catholic Church, Rev. Frank Dobias officiating, assisted by Rev. E. J. Polcak. Interment was at the Catholic cemetery. Pall bearers were: Charles Harris, Jr., Joe Nemecek, Reynold Marak, Henry Beseda, Eddie Bezdek and Harry Marak. Charles was born in this city and had lived here all his life. He was a Junior in the West High School and held the close friendship of every member of the student body and faculty. The friendly disposition of the deceased won him many admirers among the older citizens as well as those of his own age. He was an active member of the local Boy Scout troop, having been in the organization several years, and was also a member of the newly organized Junior Fire Department. He took an active part in all school athletics, and had hopes of making the regular Trojan football squad next season. In probably no place with the exception of the home and school will the absence of Charles be felt more keenly that at the News office. Here he was a welcome daily visitor, usually bringing some cheering word about school activities. We join the citizenship of this community in extending sympathy to the bereaved family. Surviving are his parents and three sisters, Dorothy, Clara and Mary Frances Jares. The West News, West, Texas, Volume 47, No. 52, Edition 1, Friday, May 21, 1937
