Will Gerik, 64, Fatally Injured Friday Night Will L. Gerik, 64, of Route 2, West, was fatally injured about 11 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18, as he walked along a service road adjacent to Highway 81 one mile south of West. West Police Chief Hollis McMahan said....the driver of the car told him Gerik stepped in front of his car and he could not stop. He put Gerik in his car and brought him to a doctor's office in West. Gerik died a few minutes later. Funeral services for Mr. Gerik were held at 8:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Church of the Assumption in West, Msgr. J.J. Valenta officiated. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery. Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Sunday at Aderhold-Moore Chapel. Surviving are four brothers, F. G. Gerik and J. A. Gerik of West, Lud Gerik of LaSalle, and Jim Gerik of Waco; five sisters, Mrs. Annie Karlik, Mrs. Bertha Marak, Mrs. Mary Cocek, and Mrs. Rose Lednicky of West, and Mrs. Millie Kallus of Abbott. Pallbearers were Leonard Gerik, Freddie Gerik, Johnny Marak, Jerome Kallus, Amos Cocek, and Raymond Lednicky. His death was the 20th traffic fatality in McLennan County this year and the first pedestrian death on a rural road. Eleven traffic deaths were on rural roads.
