Edward was the oldest child of Julius and Paulina Lemke, born in Province of Posen in the Kingdom of Prussia. He came to this country as a toddler with his parents, locating first in Jefferson Township, Bremer, IA. Later the family moved to Chelsea, Taylor County, Wisconsin. Our last knowledge of Edward was when the court asked him to be a witness in 1889. He then drops out of records. He was not named as an heir in 1926. The family said that he was kicked by a horse and killed. We do not know what cemetery he is in. The incident probably occurred around 1890 in Taylor County, WI. ∼ The 7 Jun 1890 (Saturday) issue of Taylor County Star News published a death notice for Edward: Edward Lempke, age nineteen years, an inmate of the poor house, died last Thursday. His father died more than a year ago from the result of injuries received while working at Rib Lake; the mother is in the Oshkosh Insane Hospital; one of the children is at the Sparta Home; two were taken by Greenwood families, and Edward, the oldest child, is now dead. He has been an inmate of the poor house most of the time during the past eighteen months, and his death was only a question of time.
