Viola Stavinoha Hundl, 89 years young, of Rosenberg, Texas, lost her courageous battle with brain cancer Friday, Aug. 8, 2008. Funeral services for Viola are 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2008, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church with internment following at West Gethsemane Cemetery in Rosenberg on Highway 36 South. A reception follows at the Knights of Columbus Hall. Visitation is 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary, Monday, Aug. 11, at Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home in Rosenberg. Viola was proceeded in death by parents, Vojt and Olga Stavinoha; her loving husband of 59 years, Henry Hundl; brothers: Evan, Lad, Al, Vojt and Arnold Stavinoha; and sister, Mary Gurecky. She is survived by four children: Diane Smith and husband, Ben, Delrick Hundl and wife, Debra, Michael Hundl and wife, DeeDee, and Mariellen Wenzel and husband, Charles; grandchildren: Melanie Kennedy and husband, Todd, Darren Smith and wife, Lauren, Justine Kouskouris and husband, Matt, Brian and Jessica Hundl, Heather, Hailey and Hannah Hundl, Trey Wenzel and wife, Shanna, Ashley Franklin and husband, Randall, and Kaydey Brewster and husband, Danny; great-grandchildren: Hunter and Tucker Brewster, Sophia Kennedy, Cameron Wenzel, and soon-to-be-baby, Franklin; her faithful dog, Taco; and many more family members and close friends. Born on Feb. 14, 1919, Viola was a beloved wife, mother, daughter, and GG, as she is known by her great-grandchildren, and was cherished by those who knew her. Keeping busy, one would have to say, was her pastime. She enjoyed playing dominos, chatting on the phone, baking her well- known kolaches, and simply having her afternoon social ritual of visiting with close friends and family over a hot cup of coffee. Viola loved cooking, dancing, volunteering at the local nursing home, which she began doing in 1995, and most of all, spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Over the years, Viola had created many special keepsakes for her grandchildren that will be treasured for years to come: hand-crafted cooking aprons with each grandchild's name embroidered on them, homemade cookbooks passing on her delectable recipes, and symbolic quilts that each grandchild was to receive once they graduated from high school. Viola was a member of the American Legions Auxiliary, VFW auxiliary, Altar Society, Catholic Daughters, Sons of Herman and KJZT. She was dedicated to doing for others without expecting anything in return. She will be truly missed by many who loved and admired her so much. The pallbearers are grandsons: Trey Wenzel, Darren Smith, and Brian Hundl; granddaughters' spouses, Danny Brewster and Randall Franklin; and nephew, Jody Hundl. For those wising, the family requests that donations be made to the charity of one's choice. Tributes and words of condolence may be left for the Hundl family at www.davisgreenlawnfh.com. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home, 3900 B.F. Terry Blvd. in Rosenberg, 281-341-8800.
