Gravesite details

Johanna's mother, Anna {Pfeifer} Widhalm, was originally buried near the Willow Creek near the South edge of Pierce. In 1906 or 1907 her remains were moved to the new and present cemetery. The original cemetery site had issues with quicksand.

Honorary pallbearers were members of the Christian Mother's Society of which she was a faithful life member. They were Mrs. James Tomek, Mrs. Julius Hoffmann, Mrs. Eugene Martischang, Mrs. Juliana Arnberger, Mrs. Joe Hoffmann and Mrs. Mary Hoffmann. Requiem High Mass was held at 9:30 a.m. at St. Joseph's church with the Rev. Fr. John Mines officiating. All her children, as well as many other relatives and friends filled the church. Mrs. Fuchs passed away at midnight, April 8, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. R. B. Ronspies, where she had been tenderly cared for. She fell and broke her hip in 1942, and had since been confined to her wheelchair and bed. She was a loving mother and enjoyed the friendship of many as her gracious, courteous ways endeared her to all. She bore the afflictions of her closing years with patience and Christian fortitude. Johanna Widhalm was born May 24, 1868, in the village of Schwaetza [Schwarza], Lower Austria, and when three years old came with her parents, Leonard and Anna (Pfeifer) Widhalm to America settling on a farm near Humphrey, Nebr. There she spent her girlhood days and was united in marriage to Florian Fuchs on February 29, 1892 at St. Francis Catholic Church in Humphrey. They came to a farm near Pierce and eight daughters and four sons were born to bless this union. She was preceded in death by her husband who died on June 20, 1928, and three sons, John, who died at Casper Wyoming, March 1946 and Frank and Florian Jr., who died in infancy. Those living are: Mrs. John (Mary) Promes, Hartington, Nebraska; Mrs. Reinhold [Reinhard] (Julia) Ronspies, Pierce; Mrs. George (Elizabeth) Hahn, Albion, Nebraska; Mrs. Herman (Joann) Sudbeck, Hartington; Mrs. Joe (Monica) Schott, Osceola, Nebraska; Mike Fuchs, Pierce; Mrs. William (Ann) Haschke, Norfolk; Mrs. Frances Fricke, Los Angeles, California, and Mrs. Quentin (Cecilia) Clark, Oshkosh, Nebraska.
