Ruth A. Butts, 90, of Mercersburg, PA died October 31, 2021 in Laurel Lakes Rehab and Wellness Center, Chambersburg, PA. Born October 13, 1931, in Mercersburg, she was a daughter of the late Harry and Della (Smith) Bennett. Ruth was a former employee of Fort Loudon Dress Factory, HY Green Dress Company, Mercersburg, and Knouse Foods, Chambersburg. She enjoyed bingo, and crossword puzzles. She was a member of Mt. Tabor Brethren In Christ Church, Mercersburg, Ladies Auxiliaries of American Legion Post 517, Mercersburg, and American Legion Post 561, McConnellsburg, PA. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Marshall E. Butts, who died January 26, 1985, and 13 siblings. She was the last of her immediate family. Surviving family include six children, Mary L. Gehris, Hereford, PA, Earnestine M. (Milford) Hornbaker, Mercersburg, Patricia D. Scott, Greencastle, Donna J. (David) Hornbaker, E. David (Sandy) Hawbaker and Diane C. Dorty all of Mercersburg. Eighteen grandchildren, twenty-five great grandchildren, and four great great grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at 11 AM November 6, 2021 in Stenger Hill Cemetery, Fort Loudon, PA, with Pastor Kevin Lay officiating. There will be no viewing.
