OBITUARY : ELDON A. (TOM) BENNETT, 74, of Mt. Vernon Terrace, died at 11:50 p.m. Saturday at the Waynesboro Hospital. He had been in failing health for a number of years and was critically ill since being last admitted to the hospital a week ago. Mr. Bennett was born at Boiling Springs, May 31, 1903, son of the late Howard and Delia (Smith) Bennett . His early life was lived in the Mercersburg area and for a number of years was employed as a plumber and electrician at the Mercersburg Academy. After coming to Waynesboro in 1942 , Mr. Bennett was employed in the maintenance department at Landis Tool Co. as an electrician until his retirement in 1968. He and Mrs. Bennett were married in June, 1954, and had lived at Mt. Vernon Terrace for the past seven years. Mr. Bennett was a member of Faith United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Waynesboro Chapter, AARP. In addition to his wife, Mrs. Bertha M. (Skinner) Bennett, he is survived by four children, Mrs. Arthur Hamner , Waynesboro, Wayne E. Barnett, Ashtabula, Ohio, Mrs. Dorothy Garner and Mrs. Nancy Jeffords, both of St. Petersburg, Fla. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and these brothers and sisters: Chester Bennett, Clear Spring R.D. 1, Md., Mrs. Barbara McCleary , Chambersburg R.D. 6; John Bennett , Harry Bennett and Mrs. Ruth Butts, all of Mercersburg, Wilton Bennett, Big Stone Gap, Va., Marvin Bennett , Mercersburg R.D. 2, Mrs. Bertha Myers , Ft.Worth, Texas; Mrs. Delia Rockwell , Martinsburg, W.Va, and Howard Bennett, Rouzerville. The funeral will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in the Grove Funeral Home in charge of the Rev. Howard Smith. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Mercersburg.
